Promotion-chasing Maldon and Tiptree FC look set for another prematurely-ended season of heartache as it appears their hopes of going up have been thwarted for a second time by Covid-19.
The Jammers, like near neighbours Heybridge Swifts, play in the Isthmian Division One North which has been without competitive league action since November and both could find their season is about to end. It certainly will not start until March if a ball is to be kicked again this season.
Maldon & Tiptree bowed out of the FA Cup at home to a League Two side for a second successive season.
Morecambe, the visitors from League 2, were desperate to avoid a cup upset and had a penalty in the 43rd minute from Forward Adam Phillips to thank for securing their place in the Second Round of the competition.
FOOTBALL pundits were quick to praise Maldon and Tiptree after they bowed out of the FA Cup at the hands of Football League Morecambe today (Sunday, 8 November).
The Jammers gave their all in an extremely close tie and late in the game had a couple of chances to at least force extra time, but in the end they went down by the game's only goal, which came from the penalty spot two minutes before half time after keeper Ben McNamara conceded a penalty converted by Adam Phillips.
Maldon & Tiptree gave Kingstonian, one league higher than them, a Halloween to forget as they dumped them out of the FA Trophy.
Two more goals for the in-form Shomari Barnwell (pictured) and a second goal of the season for Hamza Kaid, ensured the Jammers ghosted past Kingstonian and in to the next round on what was a very wet October afternoon.
Maldon & Tiptree have been handed a bumper home tie against Football League side, Morecambe FC of League 2 in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup. The draw was made live on national television on Monday, 26 October.
Reacting to the draw, Jammers manager, Wayne Brown spoke with the clubs media team:
A penalty in the 88th minute from Shomari Barnwell secured the Jammers' place in the First Round of the FA Cup for a second successive season.
The Jammers completed another FA Cup upset, this time dispatching Haringey Borough of the Isthmian Premier Division, one-nil.
Tickets for Maldon & Tiptree's FA Cup tie with Haringey Borough will go on general sale today (Monday, 19 October).
Tickets will be on sale at the Maldon Stadium, Park Drive on Monday, 19 October 2020 from 7pm until 9pm or before, if all tickets are sold.
Maldon & Tiptree progressed to the next round of the FA Trophy with a comprehensive win over Grays Athletic.
A penalty from Adam Vyse, combined with goals from Aaron William-Bushell, Andre Hasanally and a second half strike from Hamza Kaid ensured the Jammers progressed to the next round.
The draw for the 4th Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup has been made and Maldon & Tiptree have been handed a home draw.
Following Tuesday night's cup upset against Braintree Town, the Jammers have drawn at home against Haringey Borough from the Isthmian Premier Division, as they look to reach the First Round of the competition for the second successive season.
