The Linden Centre in Chelmsford

A person who died after being hit by a train in Essex a week ago had run away from the mid-Essex mental health unit currently being prosecuted for an alleged safety breach.

The death on Friday, October 23, places more pressure on the Linden Centre, Chelmsford, which is also currently subject to an independent review commissioned by health minister Nadine Dorries over a series of deaths spanning seven years.

White House Farm in Tolleshunt D'Arcy

CONVICTED murderer Jeremy Bamber has lost his fight to have his prison status downgraded from maximum Category A.

The infamous killer was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his adoptive mother and father, sister and her twin sons, aged just six at the time of the killings in 1985. The five family members were shot dead at White House Farm in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, home of the adoptive parents, Nevill and June Bamber.

MONTHS of political upheaval at Maldon District Council (MDC) will reach a climax next week with a meeting that will decide who the new leader and deputy leader of the authority will be until May 2021.

The council's Annual Meeting (also known as the Statutory Annual Meeting) will be held on Thursday, 5 November at 6pm. The agenda published today on the council's website contains an item where members will be asked to vote to either ratify current council leader designate, Conservative Councillor Elaine Bamford, as leader – or to elect a new leader.

Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome's chief executive, Ian Flint, has been awarded 'Individual of the Year' by Aviation Heritage UK.
