MALDON & Tiptree FC have today (Wednesday, 30 September) announced the appointment of Steve Butterworth as First Team Manager.

He joins the Jammers from Maldon & Tiptree from Brentwood Town, where he served as assistant manager to Keith Rowland until departing earlier this month.

During his time at Brentwood, Steve (known in non-League circles as 'Scouse') played a key role in one of the club's most successful recent periods. The Blues won the Isthmian League North title in the 2024/25 season before reaching the Isthmian Premier Division play-off final the following season, where they were narrowly beaten 2-1 after extra time by Billericay Town.

As a manager, Steve has previously taken charge of Great Wakering Rovers, Romford and East Thurrock United.

During his time at Romford, Butterworth led his side to the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup and the last 16 of the FA Vase, with both achievements marking the club's best runs in those competitions since the 1990s.

Before moving into management, Steve enjoyed a long playing career in non-league football, including a successful spell with Great Wakering Rovers, where he won the Essex Senior League.

Speaking on the appointment, one of Jammers' joint owners, Sonny Shahnawaz, said: We're delighted to welcome Steve to Maldon & Tiptree. He brings experience, ambition and a real understanding of non-league football. "We're building something for the long term here, and we believe Steve is the right man to lead the team into this next chapter.

"We're excited to see what he can achieve with the squad and he'll have our full backing.

Butterworth takes over from interim manager Ugo Udoji, who took on the reins when previous manager MarkHawkes - who took on the job after Maldon's summer of turmoil and the departure of Kevin Horlock - and the club parted company following a 3-2 defeat by Carshalton after being two goals ahead.

Maldon are currently 17th in the Isthmian Premier.

Butterworth's first game in charge will come on Saturday (3 October), when the Jammers make the trip to Burgess Hill Town.
