White Horse Lane, Maldon (next to Maldon Library)
Leisure
UNTIL Sunday 5th March
The Friary Walled Garden is open this Sunday (March 5) from 10am to 3pm.
With all the spring bulbs in flower it is a lovely time to visit Maldon's secret garden! Entry is free.
It is believed that there has been a garden on this site since the days of the Carmelite Friary which was founded in 1293. It eventually stopped being used in the 1970's and, after years of neglect, it was adopted by volunteers from the Maldon & Heybridge Horticultural Society in 1987. Surrounded by high brick walls with gravel paths lined with box hedging and an informal planting style, it is about one fifth of an acre in size.
The garden opens to the public on the first Sunday of each month (weather permitting) follow Maldon & Heybridge Horticultural Society on Facebook for updates.
