Maldon will be placed under Tier 3 restrictions starting at a midnight on Wednesday (16 December).

The district has been selected for the measure along with every other area of Essex except Tendring, Colchester and Uttlesford. Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced the change in the Houses of Parliament this afternoon.

All of London and Hertfordshire will also be included in the Tier 3 move.

What Tier 3 restrictions will mean for Maldon

-No mixing of households indoors or at most outdoor venues, apart from within support bubbles. This includes private gardens.

-Hospitality closed with the exception of sales through takeaway, drive-through or delivery

-Retail open

-Schools and colleges, etc. remain open

-Overnight stays advised against other than within household or support bubbles

-Work from home if you can

-Personal care remains open, including hairdressers and barbers

-Places of worship open but cannot interact with anyone outside household or support bubble

-Indoor entertainment venues closed

-Indoor leisure (i.e.gyms) open but no group activities or classes

-Weddings - 15 guests allowed

-Funerals - 30 guests allowed

-Exercise - classes and organised adult sport can take place outdoors but avoid higher-risk contact activity
