More children's entertainment has been revealed for the Maldon Christmas Festival, which is set to make a special comeback to the town next month.

Organisers have now booked five characters for the event, who will walk down the High Street and entertain the children.

Elsa, Anna and Olaf from Disney's Frozen will be in attendance, alongside Minnie and Mickey Mouse.

The festival will return to Maldon High Street on Thursday 25 November, after it was cancelled last year due to Covid restrictions.

The Christmas lights will be switched on by Councillor David Ogg, the town mayor, at 5pm outside All Saints' Church.

Besides the Disney characters, there will be plenty of entertainment for children to enjoy during the evening, including a Punch and Judy show, Santa's grotto and live reindeer.

Councillor Michael Pearlman, the chairman of this year's festival, said: "We have pulled out all the stops this year to welcome the reopening of the High Street and put us all in the Christmas spirit.

"This year, there will be tonnes of entertainment stretching from West Square to Butt Lane.

"Besides the late night opening of the High Street shops, there will also be over 40 stalls offering a wide variety of crafts, food and drink."

The festival will begin at 4pm and end at 9pm.

There will be a free shuttle bus into the town centre from Morrisons.

This year, the road closure will only extend from West Square to Wantz Road.

There will also be free parking in the town centre car parks from 2pm on the day.

You can find out which acts are set to perform at the festival here and the stalls available here.
