A number of services are taking place to mark Armistice Day (Thursday, 11 November) and Remembrance Sunday (Sunday, 14 November) across the district, and residents are being invited to attend to pay their respects to those who died during the two world wars.
The town is commemorating 100 years since Maldon's war memorial was dedicated and the Maldon and Heybridge branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) was established.
The Maldon Armed Forces and Veterans Club will be marching as a troop to represent veterans on Remembrance Sunday for the first time this year, and is encouraging veterans in the district to join - find out how to here.
The Poppy Appeal - RBL's biggest fundraising campaign to raise money for the Armed Forces community - is also marking its centenary year this November, and is open to donations.
Here are the details of services taking place in the Maldon district:
Armistice Day - Thursday, 11 November
- Hythe Quay, Maldon - meet at 10.45am, please note a maroon will be fired.
- War Memorial, Burnham-on-Crouch - meet at 10.45am for a short service.
- Memorial Garden, Bakersfield Walk, Mayland - meet prior to 11am.
Remembrance Sunday - Sunday, 14 November
- War Memorial, Maldon High Street - meet at 10.30am for the parade and service, which will end by 11.15am.
- War Memorial, Burnham-on-Crouch High Street - at 10.30am there will be a procession from the Baptist Church to the war memorial, followed by a service and wreath laying - further details here.
- Plantation Hall, Heybridge - there will be a parade from Plantation Hall to Heybridge Cemetery, followed by a service at 10.35am - further details here.
- War Memorial, Little Totham - meet on the common from 10.45am for the service.
- War Memorial, Little Braxted - meet at 2.30pm for the service.
- Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome - parade from 1pm to 3pm - all free tickets have now been taken for this event and there is no entry on the day without a ticket.
