Maldon District: Details of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday commemorations this year

Residents throughout the Maldon District have been invited to attend services to commemorate Armistice Day this Friday (November 11), and Remembrance Sunday (November 13).

Friday 11th November

Two minutes' silence will be observed at Hythe Quay in Maldon, and at the War Memorial in Burnham-on-Crouch on Friday, at 11am. Those wishing to take part are asked to arrive by 10.45am.

Maroons will be fired at both locations to mark the silence.

Councillor Bob Boyce MBE, Chairman of the Maldon District Council, will attend the Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial in Burnham-on-Crouch.

Councillor Stephen Nunn, Vice-Chairman of Maldon District Council, will be in attendance at Hythe Quay, Maldon, where a Service of Remembrance, will be led by Father John Dickens of St Mary's Church.

Serving personnel, ex-serving personnel, their families, cadets, and members of the public would be most welcome to attend either location to mark this occasion.

Sunday 13th November

Maldon

On Sunday, Maldon Town Council will hold an 'Act of Remembrance and Wreath Laying' at the War Memorial outside All Saints' Church, in Maldon High Street.

A short service will start at 10.50am, followed by two minutes' silence at 11am. All are welcome to attend.

Heybridge

In Heybridge, the public are invited to gather at Plantation Hall at 10.15am for a parade and procession to the war memorial at the cemetery in Goldhanger Road, where a service of remembrance will be held and wreaths laid.

There will also be a parade back to Plantation Hall following the service, where refreshments will be available.

Burnham-On-Crouch

In Burnham-On-Crouch, the annual Service of Remembrance with Laying of Wreaths will take place at the Town War Memorial

The parade will gather outside the Baptist Church at 10.30am to march to the War Memorial. All are welcome.

There will not be a 10am service at the Baptist Church this year.
