Maldon district's voluntary service has said that its "support remains in place" for those who need to self-isolate, after the Government announced its plans for the coming winter months.

The vaccine programme remains central to the Government's ongoing plans, alongside testing and self-isolating when required.

Measures relating to mandating masks and vaccine passports are also being held in reserve for the time being.

Sarah Troop, director of Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (MDCVS), said: "The response team is committed to helping people to stay safe as we, as a community, continue to take the steps needed to contain the Covid-19 virus.

"Many people are using their friend and family networks to help with food and essential supplies when and if they need to stay at home but we appreciate that this is not always possible and so our support remains in place."

In October last year, Maldon's Covid-19 response team secured funding to buy a storage container for the community.

This container enables MDCVS partners - charities and local groups - to continue to be able to support those who need to self-isolate after a positive Covid-19 test, a contact from Track and Trace or close contact with a positive test.

The response team can support those who are self-isolating in the district through the provision of a food parcel with supplies for up to two weeks, and will take into account people's dietary requirements, cooking abilities and facilities when preparing the parcels.

Volunteers can also pick up prescriptions and provide other support.

Sarah said: "The support is open to anyone who needs it, please do call us instead of taking a risk."

If you or someone you know needs support to self isolate, they can contact the response through Maldon and District CVS on 01621 851997 or 07526 403340 or via email to [email protected].

The support is free of charge although anyone wishing to donate can visit MDCVS's website using the link here.
