Maldon has the highest vaccine uptake out of every district in Essex, latest figures reveal.

  1. 3 per cent of eligible residents in the Maldon district had their first dose while 83.1 per cent had their second in the time up to Monday, 27 December.
  1. 7 per cent of residents had their third or booster dose according to the figures, which means the Maldon district has the highest uptake in the county for all three doses of the vaccine.

Thurrock has the lowest vaccine uptake, with just 40.7 per cent of residents having received their booster dose.

An interactive map published by the Government also reveals vaccine uptake for every area of the Maldon district up to and including 27 December.

The Southminster, Bradwell and Dengie Peninsula area is the only region in the district where less than 80 per cent of residents have had a second dose, at 79.2 per cent.

In the Maldon district, 115 people tested positive yesterday - this brings the total confirmed cases of Covid in the district to 10,951.

Despite rising cases, health secretary Sajid Javid confirmed in an announcement on Monday (27 December) the Government will not be introducing any further restrictions before the New Year.

Mr Javid said people should "remain cautious" and take a lateral flow test before attending events.

He said: "Celebrate outside if you can, have some ventilation indoors if you can, please remain cautious.

"And when we get into the New Year, of course, we will see then whether we do need to take any further measures - but nothing more until then at least."
