A Maldon vaccination centre has been praised for delivering a landmark 50,000 Covid-19 jabs as it nears another milestone - logging 10,000 volunteer hours at the centre.

The team at Longfield Medical Centre, in the Maldon District Council (MDC) offices on Princes Road, began administering vaccines in December 2020.

Sarah Troop, director of Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service (MDCVS), said: "It has been a huge undertaking in which this milestone couldn't have been reached without the valued support of our amazing volunteers.

"We are close to logging nearly 10,000 volunteer hours at the centre, which is incredible, and I would like to thank all our volunteers involved in helping to achieve this."

MDCVS has been a major force in supplying volunteers for the hub.

In a statement on Facebook, Longfield Medical Centre said: "From our first vaccine in December 2020 to our 50,000th vaccine this week at our Maldon Vaccination Hub.

"Amazing effort from all involved.

"Also, we saw more volunteers reaching 100 hours of time given to the programme and we also now have two who have reached 250 hours.

"We cannot thank you all enough. You are a joy to have with us."

Essex is United - a Facebook page run as a collaboration between Essex County Council, The Essex Public Health team and local admins - also praised the centre.

In a statement, it said: "Staff at the site have worked very hard to get so many jabs in arms, and the whole operation is also an amazing example of the power of volunteering."

Times for this week's walk in clinics at the centre are as follows:

- Wednesday 18 August: 8am-1pm and 1.30pm-8pm

- Thursday 19 August: 8am-3pm

- Friday 20 August: 8am-12.30pm

Anyone aged 16 and over or anyone needing their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine, if your first dose was on or before 25 June, can go to walk in clinics at the centre this week.
