Maldon Young Farmers firework display raises £1,300 for Crohn's and Colitis UK

Maldon Young Farmers has revealed that its firework display over the weekend raised a record amount for Crohn's and Colitis UK.

The group raised £1,300 for the charity, which supports those living with Crohn's and ulcerative colitis, after its firework display on Saturday (6 November) saw busier crowds than ever before.

Almost 500 people came to Chigborough Road, in Heybridge, to watch the fireworks - which have been attended by around 100 people in previous years.

There was a fireworks display and bonfire, alongside a barbeque, cakes and drinks.

A spokesperson for the group said: "We would like to say a massive thank you to the people that attended Saturday's fireworks - the amount of people was incredible."

They also thanked residents David and Jenny French for making the event possible with their "excellent hospitality and help", Wicks Manor Farm for donating the meat for the barbeque and Stewart Dunn, Josh Cook, David French and Andrew Brown for providing the wood.

They added: "The final thank you is to the whole club of Maldon, and everyone on the day who clubbed in and didn't quibble about the jobs they had to do.

"They all did a great job and should be proud of themselves."

Maldon Young Farmers is a club for people with a passion for agriculture or rural life, and provides members with social, educational, fundraising and travel opportunities.

The group is now preparing to raise even more money for charity with another annual fundraising event - selling Christmas trees.

Members will be selling the trees on Sunday 12 December at Essex Motor Factors, on Fullbridge in Maldon.
