A grandmother well-known in Maldon for the work she does for the community is inviting residents to her candle lit walk in tribute to victims of knife crime on Saturday (30 October).

Julie Taylor, who runs the café at St Peter's Hospital in Maldon, has organised the walk in memory of her grandson Liam Taylor, who was murdered outside a pub in Writtle last year.

Liam, known as 'Fish' to his family, was just 19 years old when he was stabbed to death outside the Rose and Crown pub in Writtle on 31 January 2020.

Julie wants as many people as possible to attend her walk in order to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives to knife crime and to raise as much awareness as possible.

She said: "It's for anyone who has a loved one in Heaven who has been taken too soon, as well as Liam.

"I have a few leaders from knife crime groups who will be joining.

"Especially after the two 16-year-old boys were stabbed to death in Brentwood last weekend, it is so important to get the message out."

The walk will begin from St Mary's Church in Great Baddow at 4.30pm and finish at Chelmsford Cathedral.

It will be followed by a 20-minute service at the cathedral on New Street.

Participants are invited to bring torches to shine during the walk.

"Let's light up Chelmsford," Julie said.
