MALDON District Council has launched a public consultation on the future of the town's High Street.

Draft proposals included with the survey put forward the closure of Maldon High Street to non-essential cars, vans and other motorised vehicles.

The idea is to give pedestrians, cyclists and sustainable transport priority in the High Street, increasing available pavement space.

The consultation runs from 5 October to 16 November.

A spokesperson said: "These plans will develop and evolve based on the public consultation feedback, and any final plans will form part of a further consultation."
