Café Brazil owners discuss recent challenges and exciting future plans with Maldon Nub News.

Café Brazil is a bright and inviting restaurant at the top of Maldon High Street.

Offering authentic South American cuisine, the restaurant is a unique addition to Maldon which is much loved by the community.

However, restaurant co-owner, Diego Bastos Machado, told Nub News how recent challenges "hit the business hard" in 2023.

Ripple effects from the COVID-19 pandemic and unexpected ownership changes after one owner returned to their home country, led to the restaurant feeling "there was no option but to put the business up for sale".

The business advert with Knightsbridge Lettings stated that the restaurant was being sold due to "lifestyle changes" [December 15, 2023]. This advert has since been removed.

In an exclusive interview with Nub News, the Café Brazil team shared that they had been exploring various options to keep the popular business thriving.

Diego told Nub News: "We had been considering collaboration with investors or new partners and even the possibility of selling the business entirely."

However, he emphasises, "closing the restaurant was "never an option"."

Now, the Café Brazil team is excited to announce their return with "new and exciting ideas."

The original owners remain invested in the business, and they express their joy in continuing to serve the Maldon community.

They told us: "We know how saddened all of our customers were when they heard the news of our restaurant being up for sale.

"This is why we are so delighted to remain open and welcome new and existing customers to our little piece of Brazil in Maldon."
