Classic Professional Dry Cleaners on Maldon High Street celebrated their 30th anniversary on Thursday, May 9.

However, the iconic high-street business goes much further back, as told through the eyes of owner Dean Moorcroft.

The family business first opened in 1984 in Rush Green, Romford, owned by Mr Moorcroft's parents.

"My Mum was the first to be in the trade working for Sketchley in 1968." Mr Moorcroft tells Nub News.

"I started to help my mum at a young age which was where my many years of experience and knowledge all started at the age of nine.

"After many years working for various companies, my mum and dad finally opened their own Dry Cleaners."

The business thrived in Romford for ten years, before the family decided to make the move to Maldon.

"I had visited the town as a child and thought what a beautiful, quaint town."

"I remember when the day came to move in, May 9th 1994. I remember it as if it was today.

"I asked myself so many questions, 'How busy will it be?' 'How long will we be here?'"

Since their opening, custom in Maldon has been steady for the business.

"You know you're doing something right when customers keep coming back. Why did we worry!

"I have seen the customers' children come in the shop at a young age, grow up & now bring children in of their own.

"I can't see me personally still here in another 30 years but I would just like to say, thank you.

"We not only appreciate the customers who have come into our shop over the years but we have created good levels of friendships too.

"We have had many good staff over the years who have been trustworthy, loyal and hard working.

"It's been a success which I couldn't have done without so many good people around me."

The business continues as a family operation, with Mr Moorcroft noting the continued support of his retired father, and the hard work of his daughter, Georgia.

You can visit the Classic Drycleaners at 156 Maldon Highstreet. Their phone number is 01621 852518.
