The A12 is currently closed due to an oil tanker fire between junction 17 and the Maldon junction (18).

Firefighters were called to the blaze on the A12, northbound between junction 17 and 18, at around 11am this morning.

Due to the hazardous contents of the vehicle, extra fire engines were sent to assist the scene.

When fire crews arrived they reported that the fire was contained to the wheel of the vehicle - the contents were not affected.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire.

Fire crews left the scene in the care of the Essex Police and a recovery service at midday.
