How many people can guess who is the most searched-for person on Wikipedia in Maldon?

The Pudding website has created a people map of the UK, replacing town names with their 'most Wikipedia-ed' resident.

This person could be someone who was born in, lived or has connections to the town.

Drumroll please...

According to the map, Maldon's most Wikipedia'ed person is Horatio Gates.

Horatio was born in 1728 in Maldon and became a general in America. From 1754 to 1763 he fought for the British against the French. He emigrated to West Virginia in 1772.

But in 1775 he led the American army against the British, defeating them at the Battle of Saratoga in 1777.

After the war, he freed all his slaves and moved to New York. He died in 1806.

Did you guess correctly?
