Amber weather warning today for Maldon District

An Amber warning for wind has been issued between 10am and 8pm today (Tuesday 2 January 2024) which includes the whole of the Maldon District.
Storm Henk will bring a spell of very strong winds, causing disruption to travel and amenities.
The storm will affect parts of southwest England and south Wales late morning and early afternoon, then parts of southern England, the south Midlands and East Anglia during the afternoon and evening.
Gusts are likely to be 50-60 mph, but may reach 60-70 mph in some places.
Amber warnings are issued when there is an increased likelihood of impacts from severe weather, with the possibility of travel delays, road and rail closures, power cuts and the potential risk to life and property.
Maldon District Council have released information on what to expect today:
- "Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage.
- Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
- Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected
- Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life
- Some roads and bridges likely to close"
The Met Office also advises the public to be wary around coastal roads and seafronts, due to an increased liklehood of large waves and beach debris causing injury or danger to life.
