An award-winning social enterprise has restarted in Maldon to support residents who live in food poverty.

Bags of Taste is a mentorship course that teaches participants the skills to cook healthy meals on a budget to feed themselves and their families for below £1 a portion.

The course aims to reduce health inequalities by targeting those in greatest need.

It ran last autumn in the district, with 94% of its participants living with long-term health conditions.

Councillor Wendy Stamp, leader of Maldon District Council, said: "I am delighted to see initiatives such as these taking place in the district.

"It will provide great support to those who need help in cooking healthy and affordable meals and I would encourage those who are eligible to sign up."

The course hopes to help residents make lasting changes to their eating habits and to positively impact their overall health and future wellbeing.

It is aimed at those who live in food poverty, are socially isolated, on a low income, single parents, pensioners and families struggling with budgets or who are overreliant on takeaway or ready meals.

Bags of Taste is currently recruiting residents in the Maldon district and would like them to express their interest by sending an email to [email protected] with a contact number so they can be signed up for this opportunity.

The course will run throughout autumn and winter, and has been funded by the Maldon District Livewell Fund.
