RESIDENTS living near a busy road that's 'battered and broken' fear of the road cracking and sinking.

Drivers have raised serious concerns about Limebrook Way in Maldon, a road soon to be very close to many new homes.

The road has been dubbed as 'majorly neglected' by residents, claiming that the 'whole car shakes' when driving along the road due to its condition. As a result, concerns have been raised by the residents.

Local resident, Emily Evans, 61, said: "The road is completely battered and broken. It's been majorly neglected. I think there will be some serious damage caused to cars and it's a desperate situation. When you drive over the road, the whole car shakes."

Susan Roberts, 70, likened it to "driving on the moon." She added: "The road is falling apart, where is our council tax going? It's just endless promises and patchwork going on. And we drivers get hit with a bang, a bump and bill for car damage. It's really shocking."

The road is located near to a plot of land where new homes have been earmarked to be built. New development plans in the area include the Wycke Place estate, which includes a range of two and three bedroom homes.

Sophie Williams, 27, said everyone is moaning about the state of the road. She added: "We need answers about what is happening. We pay enough council tax so where is it going. I think it's only going to get worse with all these new homes. I think it's disgraceful."

A spokesperson for Essex Highways said: "We are aware of the condition of Limebrook Way and the ground movement affecting the carriageway. Investigations are ongoing to develop a long-term solution. These include design works and assessments of local drainage, groundwater and roadside vegetation.

"A range of maintenance works have been carried out in recent years to maintain safety, including joint and crack repairs, surface dressing, machine surfacing and machine patching. The road will continue to be inspected monthly and any safety defects will be addressed in line with our maintenance policy."
