Changes to Maldon car parking
By Nub News Reporter 2nd Nov 2026
MALDON District Council is modernising its parking machines and going paperless in its car parks this November, with 12 new payment machines being installed in Maldon's town centre and Promenade Park.
The work will take place during November and is due to be completed by 20 November. The new machines will accept contactless payments only and will not print a paper ticket.
Drivers will need to enter their registration number when paying to park, and an email payment receipt can be requested on the machines.
RingGo will remain available in all council car parks, giving people the option to pay using the app. The Council Offices Car Park and Promenade Park Coach Park will move to RingGo-only payments due to low levels of payment machine use at these locations.
RingGo was first introduced to Maldon car parks in 2018 and has grown steadily in popularity since. It is now used for 63% of parking sessions at Promenade Park and 30% in town centre car parks. As more people choose to pay using RingGo, the Council has taken the decision to reduce the number of payment machines in its car parks.
Moving to paperless parking will help the Council run its car parks more cost-effectively, reduce administration and machine maintenance demands, cut its carbon footprint by removing the need for paper tickets, as well as making it easier for residents and visitors.
Cllr Simon Morgan, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: "More people are choosing digital ways to pay for many things these days including parking, so we're updating our car parks to reflect how people are using them today.
"The new machines will make paying simple, while going paperless will help us cut waste, reduce maintenance, and run our car parks more efficiently. We know changes like this can take a little getting used to, so we'll make sure clear information, and guidance is available to help people."
The Council will be sharing more information about the changes on their social media channels and putting up signs in the car parks to help people understand the new system. For more information, including frequently asked questions, visit https://www.maldon.gov.uk/paperlessparking.
