A teenage girl has been taken to hospital following a collision outside a shop in Spital Road, Maldon this afternoon (August 30).

Police are currently at the scene outside the Tolley Shop and have closed the road, as they await further updates.

Public transport users have been told to wait in the High Street, as bus routes have been diverted. The road closure begins outside St Peter's Hospital.

A passer-by said the girl was leaving her nearby home when she was 'struck' by a vehicle.

Eyewitnesses say several ambulances and an air ambulance also attended the scene.

The girl appears to have suffered a head injury and has been taken to hospital for treatment.
