BREAKING: Maldon fire crews tackle late-night blaze as flames ravage Heybridge home
Multiple fire crews and emergency service vehicles have responded to a house fire in Larch Walk, Heybridge, this evening (July 4).
Crews were called to the property at 10.21pm and worked to bring the blaze under control.
Incident Commander Toby Ingham told Maldon Nub News: "When our crews arrived, they were faced with an end-terrace house that was completely alight.
"The roof quickly collapsed and our concern was that the fire would spread to adjoining properties.
"Our crews did a fantastic job of surrounding the fire both from the ground and above and bringing it under control quickly.
"It's incredible that the fire hasn't spread, and it's thanks to the firefighters' skill and hard work that we're not looking at multiple houses involved in this fire."
At 12.15am on Wednesday 5 July, firefighters reported they were waiting for Cadent to arrive to assist in turning the gas off.
Cadent Gas workers arrived at 12.30am, before locating and shutting off the gas main at around 1.45am. Crews were then able to extinguish the final flames, which were completely under control but being fed by a small gas leak.
There are no reported injuries, although the property has been left significantly damaged. The residents have all been accounted for.
A full investigation into the cause will take place once it is safe to do so.
Nub News will continue to bring you updates as they become available.
