A section of Maldon High Street has been shut off after the roof of a retirement home building partially collapsed.

Four fire engines, five ambulances, three paramedic cars, and the Police have been on scene near the Wantz Road junction of Maldon High Street since around 10am this morning (November 24).

Passers-by have reported seeing significant damage to the roof of Embassy Court, a retirement housing building.

Maldon Fire Station have said they are attending a "collapsed structure incident", alongside colleagues from Chelmsford, Colchester and Urban Search and Rescue, as well as the Hazardous Area Response Team and local police.

The damage is specifically to the gable wall area of the roof, likely caused by the high winds brought along by Storm Bert.

As the structure has not yet been declared safe, the section of the road from the Wantz Road junction to Victoria Road is closed off, with the rest of the High Street operating as normal.

Maldon Nub News are awaiting further updates.
