Burnham-on-Crouch's Festive Fayre this weekend will no longer go ahead due to poor weather forecasts.

The event, which was due to take place on Saturday, December 7, was supposed to take place in the High Street and offer an evening of entertainment for residents.

Now forecasted 50mps winds and heavy rain has left organisers no choice but to cancel the event.

In a message on Facebook one of the organisers, Wayne Martin, said: "Maldon District Council, our insurance and safety office along with the committee Chairman and some members, have decided to cancel Saturday's Festive Fayre.

"This wasn't taken lightly and we have never cancelled an event before.

"Sorry for the inconvenience but with over 40 gazebos, light towers, inflatable grotto, for everyone's safety they have decided it is not safe.

"We can't apologise enough and hate letting people and stall holders down, but safety has to come first."

The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning of wind over the weekend, due to strong winds associated with Storm Darragh.

Stallholders can find more information, including on how to get a refund, here
