PLANS for 360 homes in mid Essex will place 'unacceptable pressure' on roads and services, a resident has warned.

Two phases of new developments have been approved to proceed – and some residents have raised concerns.

The two estates set to be built in Burnham on Crouch totalling 360 homes, are made up of two phases. The application proposal was agreed by Maldon District Council at a meeting on September 2.

There will be 170 dwellings in phase one and 190 in phase two on land on the western edge of the settlement of Burnham-on-Crouch.

The site is accessed via an existing residential development at Corinthian Place – a 313 home development nearing completion – which lies to the east of the site and provides road access to Maldon Road via Endeavour Way.

Resident Natalie Chant said she felt the new homes would exacerbate existing issues. She said: "We believe this proposal is unsustainable because it places unacceptable pressure on the infrastructure, causes significant environmental harm and fails to recognise the accumulative impact on existing residents."

She claimed the development would also affect residents of the existing estate who have already lived alongside a building site for around six years are concerned about disruption being extended further.

She said: "Residents of the estate have aleady lived alongside a building site for around six years. Noise, dust, traffic, and disruption have become a normal part of our daily life. This application would extend that period for several more years whilst also opening up three quiet existing cul de sacs to additional through traffic."

"Corinthian Place has been one of our most popular developments with 313 homes consented of which we are now constructing the last 20 with the larger family homes proving particularly popular.

"Continuity of builds is our priority here so local trades and the existing compounds can be retained. Alongside this delivery, over £3 million of section 106 monies have previously been contributed towards education, healthcare, youth facilities, libraries and highway improvements. A further £3.5 million is drafted to mitigate the effects of the current proposal."
