A MAN has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm after an assault in Maldon.

An Essex Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to St Mary's Lane shortly before 6.50pm on Sunday 16 August, where a man was found with a significant head injury.

"He remains in hospital with life-changing and life-threatening injuries.

"We quickly launched an investigation and on Monday evening we arrested a 38-year-old man from South Woodham Ferrers."

38-year-old Bevin King, of The Withy Windle in South Woodham Ferrers, has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm and will next appear at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on 7 October 2026. He is on court bail until that time.
