A Heybridge family has raised £1,121 for cancer charities through a Christmas Market fundraiser, in memory of Christina Hunt, who died of cancer in May.
The Christmas Market was held at Heybridge's Plantation Hall, featuring dozens of stalls, entertainment, and even a visit from the Maldon Grinch - all to help raise money for Christina's Legacy.
Kye Challis, Christina's nephew, told Nub News of his gratitude for the public and stall holders' support in reaching the milestone.
"On behalf of myself and the team at Christina's Legacy, we really want to thank everyone - both stall holders and the public - for coming out on November 27, braving the weather, and coming to the market.
"It was really nice to see everyone there, supporting our good cause.
"I'd like to give a massive thanks to The Busketeers choir, MADDS choir and Colchester City Pipe Band for coming along and entertaining everyone. It really was great!
"Without everyone who was there that day, we wouldn't have raised all this money from our first event."
Half the proceeds raised from the organisation's inaugural event will go to Macmillan Cancer Support, while the other half will go to providing care packages for those living with cancer this Christmas.
Christina's Legacy is collecting donations towards care packages for cancer patients in Broomfield Hospital and throughout Essex.
Each package will consist of:
- Toiletries, such as deodorants
- Colouring books
- Pencils and pens
- Face wipes
- Face masks
- Fluffy socks
- Scented candles
- Snacks
- Energy drinks, such as Lucozade
Christina's Legacy is set to hold more fundraising events early next year, along with a GoFundMe campaign, where people can donate at any time.
