Driver reported to police after Plume Academy student taken to hospital following collision
An 11-year-old Plume Academy student was hit by a car on Mundon Road, Maldon, yesterday afternoon (July 12).
An Essex Police spokesperson told Nub News: "We were called by our ambulance service colleagues to reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian, shortly after 3.20pm."
The boy suffered minor cuts and bruises and was taken to hospital for further checks. Meanwhile, the driver of the car, a man, has been reported for driving without due care and attention.
Carl Wakefield, Executive Principal at the Academy, thanked passers-by for stopping to help.
He said: "Thank you to everybody who assisted one of our students who was hit by a car on the way home from school earlier on. This is such a caring community."
An ambulance was called to the scene at 3.17pm, but was stood down. The boy's mother reportedly decided to make her own way to hospital as the ambulance wait was too long.
"I've just spoken to mum and, thankfully, all is good," Mr Wakefield added later.
"Mum was very complimentary of our own Mr Roper for stopping by and supporting the situation exceptionally, as well as all the other helpers."
