Get tagged, get fitter and make friends across the Maldon community

MALDON District Council has announced the launch of a new initiative, Street Tag, designed to encourage residents of all ages to get active, improve their wellbeing, and explore the district.

Delivered in partnership with Street Tag LTD, the programme introduces a fun, family-friendly interactive activity that combines physical exercise with digital technology, rewarding participants for being active in their local area.

Street Tag is a free mobile app-based activity that turns the district into a virtual playground. Participants earn points by walking, running, cycling, or visiting virtual 'tags' located across local neighbourhoods, parks and open spaces. Points can be exchanged for prizes, and players can compete as individuals or as part of teams within their community.

The first Street Tag season will launch this summer, running from 1 July to 27 August, giving residents an excellent opportunity to get outdoors and stay active during the warmer months. A second season will follow from 19 October to 14 December, ensuring the benefits of the programme continue throughout the year.

A public launch event will be held at the amphitheatre in Promenade Park between 15:30 and 17:30pm on Wednesday, 1 July, where residents can enjoy free family friendly games and activities, as well as a guided tutorial from the Street Tag team.

The initiative supports the Council's commitment to improving health and wellbeing across the district by making physical activity accessible, engaging, and inclusive for everyone.

Leader of Maldon District Council, Cllr Simon Morgan, welcomed the launch of the programme: "We are delighted to be bringing Street Tag to the Maldon District. Initiatives like this could play a vital role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our communities, helping people to build more active lifestyles in a way that is enjoyable and accessible for all ages.

"By combining technology with outdoor activity, Street Tag offers a fresh and engaging way for residents and families to get moving, explore their surroundings and connect with their communities."

Street Tag co-founder, Seun Oshinaike, added: "When being active feels like play rather than a chore, amazing things happen. We're excited to work with Maldon District Council to help more residents move, explore and connect with their community."

Residents are encouraged to download the Street Tag app and follow Street Tag on social media to find out more about how to get involved, including details of prizes, competitions and local activities linked to the programme.
