A pub in Burnham-On-Crouch has launched a Christmas appeal to help disadvantaged children in the Maldon District.

Following a successful appeal last year, 'Give A Child A Christmas' is set to help source toys for more than 500 children.

Lorna Hart, Landlady at the Victoria Inn, told Nub News: "We are thrilled to be doing this again. Things are quite difficult for a lot of families and the added burden of buying gifts for children can be extremely stressful so it's great to be able to help.

"It's such a simple concept people seem to really understand it and enjoy being able to help."

The appeal asks residents to pick up an extra toy when they are out Christmas shopping, bring it to The Victoria Inn and the team will do the rest. Toys are needed for children from newborns, all the way up to 18 years old. All those on the list are underprivileged and live in the Maldon District.

Last year's appeal helped children from local schools and those under the care of social services. Donations also went to the Lennox Children's Cancer Fund and Kids inspire, a charity which works with local children.
