Maldon and District Community Voluntary Service supports voluntary and community groups throughout the district – including Burnham, Maldon and the Dengie Peninsula.

On Monday, the charity revealed it had been successful in its bid to receive funding from the National Lottery, administered by UK Community Foundations on behalf of the Arts Council.

Maldon and District CVS says it will be using the funding to work with the Essex Book Festival to hold a Greenwood Words Day in Burnham-on-Crouch on Thursday 2 June.

Sarah Troop, Director of the charity, said: "We are delighted that we can be part of the Jubilee celebrations in the district and look forward to welcoming the Essex Book Festival."

The fund was created to support communities in delivering creative activities in celebration of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year.

More than 700 other groups across the country have been successful in their bids for funding. The Chelmsford Festival of Arts and Culture received £10,000 from the fund, while the Colchester Chinese Culture Society was given £8,500.

Ros Green, Director of the Essex Book Festival said: "Essex Book Festival is delighted to be collaborating with Maldon and District CSV on its special Greenwood Words Day, which is taking place as part of its Jubilee celebrations."

Highlights will include Salty Storytelling with award-winning storyteller Glenys Newton, craft workshops and Witchy Walks along the Crouch.

The charity offers advice to local groups on policies, procedures, legal issues and matters of good practice. It also offers start-up advice and support to new groups and projects. Any voluntary or community group based in or providing a service to the Maldon District can sign up as a member free of charge.
