Hundreds of employees have been made redundant from Eurotec, on The Causeway, Maldon, as the business has reportedly gone into receivership, Nub News has learned.

Former employees at the construction supply firm say they were informed of their redundancy last Friday (July 21), via text message.

One former employee, who wishes to remain anonymous, told Nub News they were not given sufficient notice.

They said: "We are all very upset and blame bad management, but they are saying the company never recovered from COVID."

Some colleagues feel ill-informed decisions, such as the company purchasing a £300,000 lorry but finding it was "too big to go into London" and buying 17 new vans when the old ones were "adequate", partially led to its downfall.

"If you know you're heading for hard times, you tighten your belt and economise where you can to keep going - this didn't happen," a former employee added.

"They blame it all on COVID, where they lost so many customers, but our drivers kept working throughout lockdown - delivering to all parts of the country."

Directors were reportedly instructed to return their company cars last Monday (July 24).

It is not yet known how many jobs will be lost in total, but 'hundreds' of staff members are said to now be out of work.

A spokesperson for Eurotec Group Limited has been approached for comment. However, as of Thursday (July 27) the company's website is no longer operational.

More to follow.
