Hundreds turn out at first classic military vehicle in Maldon in two years

Residents came out in force to see a range of classic military vehicles at Promenade Park last Sunday (6 February).
This was the first winter gathering held by the Essex Historic Military Vehicle Association (HMVA) in two years due to Covid, and organisers hailed it "a great success".
The free event saw many different eras and sizes of military vehicles on display for crowds, with members of Essex HMVA on hand to talk about the history of their vehicles.
Colin Tebb, chairman of Essex HMVA, said: "We couldn't have wished for a better first event in 2022. Despite the initially damp and windy weather, the conditions cleared up and we had a great winter gathering event.
"We saw many hundreds of people during the day and all seemed to be enthusiastic to see the vehicles and speak to the owners.
"Those who were there may also have seen some of our exhibitors break into an impromptu jumpin' jive dance as well, which brought an energetic burst to the day."
Essex HMVA is a charity established to preserve military history, vehicles and artefacts.
The group has more than 250 members, whose collections cover all time periods - with vehicles ranging from push bikes, motorcycles, jeeps, land rovers and lorries to artillery and tanks.
Organisers are now looking forward to the charity's main fundraising event - Echoes of History - on 13 and 14 August in Rettendon.
The living history and military vehicle show invites residents to experience history through the ages with reenactions, vehicle displays, entertainment, music and more.
Colin said: "If the winter gathering is anything to go by, it will be very exciting indeed - with lots more to see and experience.
"Once again, we'd like to thank Maldon District Council for their generous support and permission to use Promenade Park and we hope to be back here soon."
