Large electrical fire destroys garage in Mundon
Firefighters were called to a home in Mundon on Saturday (12 February), when a fire started in the garage while the occupants were out.
Crews were called to the address on Main Road at 11.05am, after a passerby noticed a fire in the garage.
On arrival, crews from Maldon, Burnham, South Woodham Ferrers and Witham found a large fire spread across two floors of the garage building.
Firefighters worked for around an hour to extinguish the fire by 12.04pm, afterwards staying onsite to dampen the surrounding area down to prevent the fire reigniting.
Carl Pullen, fire investigation officer, said: "We believe the fire started accidentally as a result of an electrical fault with a fridge freezer which was kept in the garage.
"The garage has sadly been destroyed as a result of the fire, but we were pleased to see that the occupants had working smoke alarms throughout their property.
"We recommend you have at least one working smoke alarm on every level of your home and that you test them at least once a month."
