Hythe Quay de-siltation project begins

Local News by Nub News Reporter 1 hour ago

MALDON District Council has announced that a project to remove the build-up of silt at Hythe Quay has started today (Wednesday, 18 March).

Dredging at Hythe Quay will enable safer access to the Quay for all vessels and is anticipated to be completed in mid-May, however this is subject to weather and tide conditions.

To enable the dredging work, for a few weeks the visitor pontoon, will be removed. However, this will provide the opportunity for the Council to undertake some routine maintenance on the structure. Once the work has been completed on it, it will be returned.

Cllr Richard Siddall, Leader of Maldon District Council, said; "I am really delighted that the work will be starting imminently to improve Hythe Quay.

"This will improve access and operation for the, iconic Thames Barges that call Maldon their home and for the many visiting vessels, that come to our historic maritime town.

"The Council's investment in maintaining our quay will ensure safer mooring and safeguards the future of the quay for residents and visitors alike."

Cllr Kevin Lagan, Chairman of Maldon District Council said: "I have been passionate about ensuring this dredging happens, and the news that the work will now begin has been very well received by those who regularly use the Quay.

"While the works will create a little disruption, the end result will be well worth it, and I would like to thank the Maldon Harbour Commissioners and all of the Quay users for their support and understanding."
