Maldon MP John Whittingdale has welcomed this afternoon's (Tuesday, 6 September) appointment of Liz Truss as Prime Minister.

Mr Whittingdale, a former media minister in Boris Johnson's government before he was ditched, told Maldon Nub News readers in July that it was right that the controversial leader stood down.

And the outcome of that was the appointment today by the Queen of Ms Truss.

Mr Whittingdale said: "I am pleased Liz won and believe that she has the right approach for this country.

"I now look forward to her setting out as a matter of urgency measures to the immediate crisis by helping both consumers and business meet the huge increases in energy bills that we face as a result of Putin's illegal war against Ukraine."
