The annual Maldon Christmas Fayre proved a huge success this year with a joyous and busy event on November 28.

The feel-good festive event hosted thousands of families and friends who came together to enjoy Maldon at its best.

Light Up Maldon 2024 saw a bustling street market, with local businesses such as Ansell & Sons Butchers, Sark and the Oak House out interacting with visitors and making the most of the foot traffic.

The new inside markets filled with unique crafts and gifts also attracted plenty.

Young local voices entertained the Town Hall Market punters with Maldon Youth Orchestra, and choirs from Maldon Primary School, St Francis Catholic Primark, Heybridge Primary and All Saints Primary.

Two schoolchildren even joined the Mayor of Maldon, Cllr Andrew Lay, in turning on the sparkling lights that illuminated the High Street, including in the All Saints and St Peters churchyards, the Moot Hall balcony and lamp posts along the High Street.

"It was a truly magical evening, and I was delighted to share the lights switch on with the children from Maldon Court Preparatory School and Plume Academy," said Cllr Andrew Lay, Maldon Town Mayor.

"It was wonderful to see the community come together for the evening to support and enjoy our beautiful High Street and our valued business community."

Stunning performances by local artists and groups, including The BIG Sing, Michael Glaysher as Elvis, and the Maldon & District Dramatics Society, proved incredibly popular drawing huge crowds.

Street entertainers from the Maldon SDA Choi, Maldon Greenjackets and Dark Horse Morris Dancers, and the Salvation Army band, pleased residents away from the mainstage.

Maldon Town Council would like to thank everyone who attended, the generous sponsors of the event, and all who contributed to its success.
