The Sands Ribbon Run comes to Maldon Promenade Park in October, aiming to raise money to fund vital research into miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth.

The sponsored run will take place at Maldon Prom on October 12 at 9am, with participants meeting outside the Rossis Hut.

It is free to sign up, with people encouraged to start their own fundraising and choose their own distance comfort levels, 5, 10 or 15 km.

The run hopes to encourage people to come together to run, walk or jog, and remember their babies and honour those who have lost.

Maldon's Ribbon Run has already raised over £800 for the baby loss charity, Sands.

The event coincides with Baby Loss Awareness Week, October 9-15.

Chris Daniel, the organiser of this year's Ribbon Run, was inspired to take part in the Sands Ribbon Run 2023 after losing his baby son, Louie, last year.

He says the support offered by Sands to him and his partner was invaluable, so he hopes this year's event can raise even more for the charity.

In the UK, 13 families a day suffer the heartbreak of losing their baby before, during or shortly after birth. That's around 4,500 babies a year.

Sands exists to reduce the number of babies dying and to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, before, during or shortly after birth, for as long as they need support.

Chris will be present at Promenade Park from 8.30am on the morning of the run to answer any questions about fundraising and the route.

Just £3 could provide a Sands birth certificate for a baby whose birth cannot be registered through a register office, while £100 could help ensure every hospital in the UK has a dedicated Sands volunteer to help healthcare professionals access training, guidance and support.

You can sponsor and sign up to the Maldon Prom Ribbon Run here.
