AN airshow featuring large model aircraft will take place over both days of this weekend (Saturday 19 an Sunday 20 August) at a popular historic aerodrome close to Maldon.

The model flying displays at Stow Maries in Hackmans Lane, Purleigh, will feature fighter planes of the type that would have been flown when the site was an active World War One aerodrome, through to present day jets. The war plane display will be put on by the Dawn Patrol Team.

Aerobatic and 3D demonstrations will also take place during the day.

Gates open at 10am with a barbeque on offer.

Visitors will also have access to the Airmen's Mess and the historic attraction's four exhibitions, detailing its fascinating past - Stow Maries is unique as the most complete surviving First World War aerodrome in England.

Last year's Large Model Airshow was a huge success and with Stow Maries now holding the 'Good to Go' Covid-19 Industry Standard Certificate, this year's display is able to go ahead despite the pandemic. The 'Good to Go' certification is a kitemark of The National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland that recognises the business is following government and industry Covid-safety guidelines.

Ticket prices are per day and the programme will be repeated on the second day.
