Latchingdon residents have complained to the council after experiencing days of a strange 'mystery odour'.

Residents from properties off Burnham and Maldon Road in Latchingdon have noticed a 'very strong' petrol-like smell lingering over a number of days.

Many locals took to Facebook yesterday morning to report the odour had worsened, with one person saying the stench had even woken her up (August 27).

In a Facebook post on Friday, August 23, Latchingdon Parish Council Chairman Tony Fittock reassured residents that District Council Officers were following up on the origin of the odour.

The post read: "Once the source has been identified, they [the District Council] will take the appropriate action.

"Whilst I understand the concern, the outcome will remain uncertain and will be dependent on not just the findings but the compliance of the actual perpetrator be it an individual or a Commercial entity."

A spokesperson for Maldon District Council said; "The Council can confirm that we are currently working with partner organisations to investigate this issue, but as it is an ongoing investigation, we are unable to comment further at this time."

Latchingdon Parish Council have encouraged residents to record evidence of the odour.

Residents who wish to receive a copy of the odour report form must email: [email protected]
