Take a look at what Limebrook u3a's groups have been up to in September:
The Photography Group
Limebrook u3a's Photography Group were treated to a presentation by Phil Davies at the URC Hall in Maldon.
He took us through his journey in photography and related it to his own life. As a member of both Limebrook and the Maldon Camera Club he has been an active photographer all his life. Using photographs from when he was age three right up to images taken on his mobile phone, he entertained and informed the meeting which was arranged by Graham Churchill.
Phil also explained why he has reverted back to film photography giving us some comparisons of film verses digital images, now the only digital camera he possesses is on his mobile phone. A display of his collection of vintage cameras and the ones he now uses was of great interest.
The Nature Group
Barbara Hallett reports "The Nature Group decided to explore part of Danbury Ridge. We followed the Red Route marked on the Essex Wildlife Trust map at the beginning of the walk. Although on their board at the entrance the walk was calculated as being 2.5 km it was in fact more like 3.5 km.
This is a beautiful walk at any time of the year. The walk initially passes through Scrubs Wood and features many rare Wild Service trees, old oaks, chestnut and hornbeam. In Pheasanthouse Wood there are raised bogs as well as mixed woodland and we crossed many streams and marshy areas filled with wetland plants.
Woodham Walter Common was a complete contrast as it is a much more open area. We passed through the remains of the deserted Pheasant house farm and were able to take a break in the hay barn which is still used by EWT."
The Wine Tasting Group
Chris Smith arranged a meeting at the WMCC with a wine presentation and tasting evening from Martin's Lane Vineyard.
The Wine Tasting Group were joined by members of The Winers Group. They were given a very informative talk from Graham and Caroline Martin, along with tastings and generous nibbles to go with their wines.
They learnt the history of their ventures into growing vines and the trials and tribulations of the vineyard that now produce over 1,000 bottles of wine each year.
The Shakespeare Group
Liz Jones and the Shakespeare Group meet in the Blue Boar hotel to read plays and have just finished Twelfth Night, which is one of Shakespeare's best comedies.
Six members went to see The Merry Wives of Windsor in an outdoor performance by the Pantaloons troupe.
It was a chilly but very entertaining performance where four actors shared all the parts. The next play to read will be a Winter's Tale.
The ethos of the u3a is "Learn, Laugh, Live", and Limebrook u3a's members are making the most of their time together.
