Limebrook u3a Maldon Nub News April 2021

We have been having fun during lockdown and Limebrook u3a is now planning its 2021 to 2022 programme.

Our monthly meetings on Zoom have attracted between 85 and 100 people and I am pleased to tell you that we have had new members joining this year.

The next meeting is on the 9th April when our speaker is Jenny Mallin with the topic:

"A Grandmother's legacy: my travels around India".

This talk will be filled with amusing anecdotes about her travels around India with tales ranging from the arduous task of just purchasing a train ticket to stories which have demonstrated the kindness of a stranger, the superstitious side to a nation and an insight into how much India has changed since her first visit in 1990 up to the present day.

This meeting is being opened to guests. If you would like to attend, or learn more about Limebrook u3a, please send your details to our Membership Secretary Tim Stubbings at: [email protected]

Chris Dove has arranged the first face-to-face meeting of the Booklovers Group for when the rule of six returns and hopes that their monthly meetings will recommence.

Christine Steel organises our Weekender's Group and they have held weekly Zoom meetings to keep in touch and have a chat over tea or coffee, however the members must provide their own chocolate biscuits. This group was so successful that Maureen Leatherdale set up Weekend Companions.

Both these groups are aimed at people who are on their own and who wish to share time with others by meeting for chats over coffee, to have lunch, to go on visits to attractions and other activities. If you are on your own and feel this group is for you, why not contact us at Limebrook u3a?

Mike Stringer's History Group have a Zoom presentation planned for the 6th May with Jo Livingstone talking on the topic "Fire! -The Volunteer Fire Brigade".

The talks attract people interested in general history and there are plans afoot to re commence face-to-face meetings and to visit places of interest in Essex and London as soon as it is possible to do so.

Graham Churchill's Photography Group have been working their way through topics using letters of the alphabet. With over 50 entries the competition was won by Norman Groves who produced an excellent image of an Egret for the letter E and in joint first place came Jo Madge with her composition F for Frozen, a beautiful image in black and white.

We have many other Interest Groups who have been having fun this year, so if you are approaching retirement or are no longer in full time work, please look us up at Limebrook u3a using the link to the website here for more information.
