Limebrook u3a's May Newsletter

5th May 2021 | Local News

Here is the May newsletter from Limebrook u3a:

Limebrook u3a has seen the return of The Garden Chat Group led by Meryl Rawlings who recently arranged a trip to the RHS Hyde Hall.

This is a group dedicated to chat about gardens, gardening and to give the opportunity to share expertise or problems that members have with their own gardens. It is an informal group meeting on occasional Mondays for a coffee and discussion. They also arrange visits to gardens of interest.

While we are still not able to meet at the WMCC, our monthly meetings are on Zoom. These meetings have gone from strength to strength regularly attracting over 85 people.

The next meeting is on the 14th of May when our speaker is Paul Robbins and his subject is The 60's: A Decade of Change.

If you remember flower power, the 'I'm Backing Britain' campaign, Emergency Ward 10, and dancing to the Beatles, The Shadows, Matt Monro, or the cold winter of 1962/3 which people believed would never end, then this is the talk for you!

The talk also presents the opportunity for members to travel back to the news and people of this era and how they helped shape and create the Britain we see today.

The meeting is being opened to guests. If you would like to attend, or learn more about Limebrook u3a, please send your details to our Membership Secretary Tim Stubbings at: [email protected]

Paul Madge has been running a series of talks for our Photofiddlers Group. Using software, he has shown how to improve our photographs. One of our members Chris Smith has used these newfound skills and her entry into the National u3a magazine has been successful. The original photograph was taken on a dull day and had items she wished to remove and change. With care she improved the image and now has something to be proud of. Who said "the camera never lies?"

Jessica Patient was voted the top image in the Photography Group's monthly competition with her entry of "Gulls". We are hoping that it will soon be possible for the resumption of the field trips that are so much part of this Interest Group although the Zoom meetings have been very well attended with new members joining during the year.

As we move into the coming months we are looking forward to when all our activities can return, so if you are approaching retirement or are no longer in full time work, please look us up at www.limebrooku3a.org.uk for more information.

Advance notice of the Friday 11th June 2021 meeting with Saffron Summerfield. She is a highly respected international singer, composer, and sound artist with many interesting stories to tell.
