IN PICTURES: Visitors endure wet weather for successful Stow Maries 'living history' event
Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome held a successful living history event over the weekend, battling "fierce" weather conditions to attract plenty of interest.
Welcoming historians from all over England on August 5 and 6, the event introduced many visitors to the Great War period. There was a wide variety of demonstrations and displays during the two days.
Many visitors made special trips to enjoy the event – including one family who came over from Europe. Mattis and Henning Wuelker and their friend, Frank Becker, made the 600 mile trip from Hamburg, Germany, specifically for the event. Mattis was very excited to be at the museum.
"It is a well-known place for us in Germany," Mattis said.
"We watch all the YouTube videos and have been following the project for many years."
"We arrived yesterday and we will be going home after the event tonight."
Chief Executive Officer Ian Flint was impressed by the success of the event, even donning period clothing himself.
Ian said: "On Saturday, the heavens opened but our visitors were undaunted - they just dressed for it.
"The living historians pulled out all the stops, they really gave their all despite the rain and wind, it was amazing to see their dedication. Of course, Sunday was a brighter day which meant they were able to put on even more top quality displays."
The major fundraiser will support the work undertaken to preserve and protect the Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome.
"Our visitor feedback has been outstanding, they were really pleased. I can't thank the historians enough for their exemplary work," Ian added.
Last month, Stow Maries Great War Aerodrome welcomed hundreds of visitors to its 'Propwash' event, celebrating a love for aviation and flying.
