Salero Lounge, a new all-day dining and drinks venue, is set to open in a disused Victorian building in Maldon High Street.

According to proposals submitted to Maldon District Council, hospitality chain Lounges intends to open its third venue in Essex.

The Grade II listed building near to Maldon's Historic Moot Hall was constructed in 1860 as a public hall and was used as a Post Office for many years. More recently, it was home to one of Morrisons' now-defunct convenience stores, My Local.

Described as "a home from home throughout the day", Lounges offers all-day dining, with the same menu served from 9am every day.

The internal fit out is set to include the installation of a bar, toilets, and a kitchen area. It is hoped the application will promote the re-use of a currently vacant building and will sensitively restore it to create a high-quality establishment.

Lounges is owned by Loungers PLC, a hospitality business established in 2002 with an annual net turnover of more than £200 million.

Turley, the planning consultants acting on behalf of Loungers PLC, said: "Whilst internal alterations are required to accommodate the use, the fit out is all removeable and would not affect the heritage or character of the building."

The concept is informal, so customers can fulfil different needs throughout the day, whether that is time to unwind alone or to enjoy an evening meal with friends or family.

Lounges cater to different tastes, "from fresh, zingy salads to massive burgers with all the trimmings".

The design of a Lounge is characterised by informal, unique interiors with an emphasis on a warm, comfortable atmosphere. Each location has a consistent 'look'. They are individually named and tailored to the site and local area, so no two sites are the same.

Lounges also owns Romano Lounge in Colchester City Centre and Orleto Lounge in Basildon.

Further details, including the restaurant's planned opening date will be featured in a Nub News story next week.
