UFest, a "festival of community and wellbeing", will be held in Promenade Park on Friday 8 July, to welcome the Queen's Baton Relay on its way to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Baton contains a message from Her Majesty The Queen to the Commonwealth and has been carried around the world on a 294-day, 90,000-mile journey. Finally, it will reach its destination at the Commonwealth Games on 28 July, where the message will be read out.

Councillor Penny Channer, Leader of Maldon District Council, said: "UFest will feature activities, stalls, and events for the whole community, focusing on health, wellbeing, and fun.

"The event is being held on the Friday so we can welcome the Queen's Baton Relay, but I hope residents will still try to pay a visit later in the day, or evening, and enjoy this free event."

Activities will begin at 11am and run into the evening, with a stage line-up of musicians and entertainment, a food court and a Community Marquee with local organisations, sports clubs, schools and businesses offering activities for all to enjoy.

When the Baton arrives in Maldon, it will be carried by 10 specially chosen 'Batonbearers' on a two-kilometre course around Promenade Park, paying a visit to the statue of Byrhtnoth, before concluding on the UFest stage.

The event is funded by the National Lottery and run in partnership with Amphora Events.

There will be live music, street food from around the world and a selection of games, sports and activities to take part in throughout the day.
