Maldon Film Club welcomes in 2025 with a bang
Maldon Film Club welcomed in 2025 with the screening of the BAFTA award winning 20 Days in Mariupol and the highly acclaimed Wicked Little Letters.
The season continues in February with the screening of the BAFTA award nominated Till and Chile'76.
Till, which will be shown on Wednesday February 5, is a profoundly emotional and cinematic film about the true story of Mamie Till Mobley's (Danielle Deadwyler) relentless pursuit of justice for her 14 year old son, Emmett Till, who, in 1955, was lynched while visiting his cousins in Mississippi. In Mamie's poignant journey of grief turned to action, we see the universal power of a mother's ability to change the world. As Emmett Till found to his cost things were very different in Mississippi!
Our second film for February on Wednesday 19 is Chile'76. Set in Chile in 1976, three years after Pinochet came to power, Carmen (Aline Kuppernheim) heads off to her beach house to take some time for herself. When the family priest asks her to take care of Elias (Nicolas Sepulveda) a young man he is sheltering in secret, Carmen steps onto unexplored territories, away from the quiet life she is used to.
The films for March are the highly recommended low budget British indie, Scrapper and All of us Strangers which was nominated for 6 BAFTA awards and is described as a poignant story about love, family and the ghosts of our past.
The 20th season continues until 28th May 2025 with films being shown fortnightly on Wednesdays in 2025. The Club meets at Maldon Town Hall, doors open at 7.15pm, wine and soft drinks are available at a charge from 7.30pm and unless notified to the contrary all films will commence at 8pm.
