Don't forget there's a flower festival on at St Mary's Church in Maldon this weekend - with refreshments served on the patio outside and displays proudly created by lots of local groups.

The Festival of Flowers began yesterday (Friday, 6 August) with a Mass at 10am and is open today and tomorrow from 10am to 5pm each day in the church, though there will be a further mass held at 10am on Sunday as usual.

There will also be two recitals given by St Mary's organ scholars. James Housego will give a piano recital at 1pm today and Ewan Cacace will perform on the new organ at 1pm tomorrow.

The church in St Mary's Lane is traditionally known as 'The Fisherman's Church' because of its position close to The Hythe and at the last Festival of Flowers in 2019 the theme was the link between St Mary's and the bargeing community.

Like many other annual events, the festival couldn't go ahead in 2020 and this year the theme on its return is 'Joy'.
